A tortoise, seeking help to move to a new pond, is warned by his goose friends not to speak during their flight. However, when villagers jeer at them, the angry tortoise ignores the advice, opens his mouth to yell at them, and falls to his death.

The Tortoise and The Geese

Hello friends, today we’ll listen to a story about two geese and a tortoise.

Once upon a time, there was a tortoise named Kumbhagyriva living in a village. He had two goose friends, and their friendship was very deep. They would spend their days sitting by the pond, telling stories. One year, there was no rain, and as a result, the pond where Kumbhagyriva lived began to dry up. The geese became worried that their friend would not survive if the pond dried up completely.

The tortoise understood the problem and said to his friends, “Friends, it will be hard to stay here. You both should find a new pond and take me with you so you can drop me off there.” The geese wondered how they could possibly carry the tortoise.

So Kumbhagyriva told them, “You two bring a long stick, and I’ll hold it tightly in my mouth. You both can hold on to the ends of the stick and fly, taking me to the new pond.” The geese loved this idea. “Okay, we’ll do it,” they said and set off to find a new pond. After flying for a long time, they found a very large pond filled with water. They returned and told Kumbhagyriva, “Our search is over. We’ve found a new pond! Let’s go.”

They had brought a stick with them and told the tortoise to hold it tightly. Before they left, they also warned him, “Don’t open your mouth by mistake. If you do, you’ll fall down.” The three of them then began their journey.

As the geese took off and started flying over a village, the villagers saw them and began to shout, “Look! Two geese are flying away with a tortoise!” When the shouting of the villagers reached Kumbhagyriva’s ears, he got angry. He opened his mouth to scold them and said, “What are you all shouting about?”

As soon as Kumbhagyriva opened his mouth, he fell to the ground. When he landed, the villagers caught him and decided to cook him. There was nothing the two geese could do.

The moral of this story is that you should never ignore the advice of your good friends. Whatever they say is for your own good.
