A friendless elephant is rejected by a monkey, a rabbit, and a frog for being too big and different. He later earns their friendship by courageously chasing off a lion that was terrorizing them, proving that true friendship is based on character, not appearance.
The Elephant and His Friends
Hello friends, today I’ll tell you a story about an elephant.
Once upon a time, there lived a very large elephant in a forest. He was so big that he had no friends. He would go around looking for companionship. One day, he saw a monkey on a tree and asked, “Will you be my friend?”
The monkey replied, “You can’t climb trees like me or jump from one tree to another. How can we be friends? I can’t be your friend.” With that, the monkey left.
The elephant walked a little further and met a rabbit. He asked the rabbit, “Will you be my friend?”
The rabbit said, “You’re so big you won’t fit into my little burrow. And what good would it do for me to be friends with an elephant? I can’t be your friend.” With that, the rabbit disappeared into his burrow.
The elephant walked on and saw a frog sitting in a pond. He asked the frog, “Would you like to be my friend?”
The frog said, “You can’t jump like me or play in the water. I can’t be your friend.” The frog hopped away.
The elephant felt sad but continued his search. He went a little further and saw all the animals running away in fear. He caught a bear and asked, “Why are you all running away? Why are you so scared?”
The bear replied, “A lion is coming! He bullies everyone and eats them. We’re running to get away from him.” The bear then ran off.
The elephant thought, “I should help these animals.” He went to the lion and said, “Why do you bully everyone? Just be happy with yourself. Go away.” The lion growled and told the elephant, “Mind your own business. Don’t tell me what to do. What does it matter to you if I bully others? I’m going to find those animals and catch them.”
The lion started to walk away, but the elephant got angry. He grabbed the lion with his trunk and threw him to the ground. The lion was badly hurt and ran away in fear. The other animals saw all this. They were happy and came to the elephant and started making friends with him. The elephant was also happy to have so many new friends.
The moral of this story is that you shouldn’t judge someone or be friends with them based on their looks or size. True beauty and friendship come from the heart, not from outward appearance.
