Help Others and You Will Receive Help
Hello friends, today I’ll tell you a story about two donkeys.
There once was a washerman who had two donkeys. Many people would bring clothes to him to be washed. He would climb hills and mountains to get to the river to wash them. One day, as the washerman was bringing the clothes back, one of the donkeys felt very unwell. So, the unwell donkey asked his companion, “Look, I’m not feeling well at all. Please lighten my load a little so it will be easier for me to walk.” But the other donkey said, “Why should I carry your load? It’s your share. You carry it yourself. I won’t.” Saying this, the donkey walked ahead stubbornly.
A little further down the road, the unwell donkey fell down. When the washerman saw that the donkey was not well and could no longer carry the load, he took all the clothes from his back and put them on the other donkey. The first donkey then walked on with ease, but the donkey who was now carrying the full load began to get very tired. He saw the other donkey walking along comfortably, and so he said to him, “You just asked me to carry a small portion of the load, but the washerman has put the entire load on me. Please, take some of it.”
The first donkey replied, “No. When I asked you for help, you said that it was my burden and I should carry it myself. Now, all of this is your burden, and you should carry it yourself. I won’t.” Saying this, he walked ahead stubbornly. The second donkey was exhausted but could do nothing, and he continued to follow the washerman, carrying the entire heavy load.
The moral of this story is that when you help others, others will be ready to help you in return. Otherwise, they won’t even look in your direction. I hope you liked this story. We’ll meet again with another story. Namaste.
