A greedy mouse, after eating his fill of corn, gets trapped in a basket due to his swollen stomach. He repeats the mistake the next day and is eaten by a cat, showing that excessive greed leads to one’s downfall.
The Greedy Mouse
Hello friends, today I’ll tell you a story about a mouse. A story about a greedy mouse.
A mouse lived in a house and was very hungry. He began to search for food all over the house. When he entered a room, he saw a large basket full of corn. He thought, “I’ll eat this corn to satisfy my hunger.” But the basket was so tall he couldn’t climb into it. So he came up with a plan and gnawed a small hole in the side of the basket. He squeezed through the hole, reached the corn, and began to eat.
He ate so much that his stomach became full and swollen. When he tried to get out, he couldn’t fit through the small hole anymore. He began to cry, “What do I do now?” Just then, a rabbit who lived in the same house came by. The rabbit said, “Don’t try to get out right now. Just stay in the basket. By morning, all the corn in your stomach will be digested, and your stomach will shrink again. Then you can get out.” The mouse liked this idea and decided to spend the night in the basket.
The next morning, when the mouse woke up, his stomach was small again. The mouse thought, “I’m hungry again. Why don’t I just eat more corn?” And so he did, eating a lot more. After eating, he couldn’t fit through the hole again. He thought, “I’ll just go to sleep again and get out later.” So the mouse found a comfortable spot inside the basket and went to sleep.
A cat also lived in that house. As the cat was passing by, she smelled the mouse and began searching for him. She looked everywhere but couldn’t find him. Then, she thought that the mouse might be in the corn basket. Quietly, she climbed down into the basket. When she looked inside, she found the mouse fast asleep. The cat pounced on him, caught him, and ate him. The mouse died.
The moral of this story is that we should not be too greedy. Excessive greed will only bring harm to us.
I hope you liked this story. We’ll meet again with another story. Namaste.
