The story of the two-headed bird, Burunda, illustrates the importance of unity and cooperation. One head selfishly consumes a delicious fruit alone, refusing to share with the other , leading to the second head retaliating by eating a poisonous fruit, ultimately killing the bird due to their disunity.
Two headed bird
Hello friends, today I’m going to tell you a very special story. This is the story of a bird with two heads. It’s a very old story. There was a bird with two heads. The name of that bird was Burunda.
One day, as the bird was flying here and there, it saw a golden, lovely fruit on a tree. The head that saw the fruit flew towards it and said, “Oh, what a lovely fruit!” “God has sent this for me. I will eat it now and be satisfied”. Saying this, it went towards the fruit and began to eat it with relish. It was not only eating the fruit but also praising it a lot. It was saying, “How sweet the fruit is! How lovely the fruit is!” “Wow, I have never eaten such a lovely, delicious fruit before”.
The other head, which was listening to all this, also felt that it should taste this fruit. So, it said to the first head, “Please give me a little bit of the fruit to taste”. “I also want to taste it”. Then the first head said, “What’s the need? Whether I taste it or you taste it, our body is one. Whether I eat it or you eat it, the stomach is the same where this fruit will go”. “Therefore, you let it be. Only I will eat this fruit alone”. And it did not give any of that fruit to its second head and finished the whole fruit by itself.
The first head felt very bad. A few days passed like this. When the bird was flying, the second head saw another fruit. So, it went towards that fruit to eat it and also said, “Look, this fruit is also very lovely”. “That day you didn’t let me taste the fruit, did you?” “Today I will eat this fruit completely”. Then the first head said, “No, no, don’t eat this fruit. This fruit contains poison”. But that head did not listen to it at all and ate the fruit completely. As soon as it ate it, it started having stomach pain and began to suffer greatly. In this suffering, its life passed away.
So, the summary of this story is that we should not live by fighting with our companions but rather live with them with tolerance and unity. That’s why it is said that there is strength in unity. Hope you liked this story. See you again with another story. Namaste.
